Artist’s Bio

Born  in Montreal, Barbara  spent the majority of the last 20 years in Italy where she feels inspired by the beauty of nature and the rich artistic history.

She travelled back and forth between Tuscany, Italy and Sussex, England from 2012 to 2016 as she was doing her training in Steiner inspired art and art therapy at Tobias School of Art and Art Therapy.

Barbara was artist in residence at the Goetheanum, the world center for anthroposophy,  in Switzerland from October 2016 to April 2017. She  continued her research of the theme “ The Sacred in Nature” in her artwork and discovered that painting with plant colours is healing both for the artist and for the viewer as the image embodies the cosmic forces of the plant.

Her anthroposophical studies have inspired a deeper spiritual mood and technique; primary interests in her artwork are nature and plants; spirituality and colour. She is not completely representational nor completely abstract. She paints what she sees but the work is not completely figurative as her main interest is expressing moods and feeling through colour for example, the earth beneath our feet,  the air which circulates around us, the flower’s perfume, the variations in light, the heat of the sun on our skin. These are all sensations which are transmitted through the soul moods of the paintings.

Her goal is to bring healing by helping people to reconnect to nature and to create balanced and harmonious images that will enable positive spiritual forces to manifest more strongly in the world.
